More WOW for TVOKids

May, 2010

Genuine Pictures Inc. of Ottawa has been green lit for a 4th season of its popular kids’ series A World of Wonders (WOW). Production on 26 new episodes of the globetrotting series begins in August for delivery to TVO in early 2011. Shot in HD, A World of Wonders takes viewers on a worldwide adventure. Under the tutelage of a young Webmaster (Ottawa actor Sami Botros), host Cari Leslie receives clues that lead her on this ultimate learning odyssey. The series has taken viewers to dozens of wonders, including the Great Wall of China, Peru’s Machu Picchu, Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, Chichen Itza in Mexico and Jordan’s Lost City of Stone, Petra.

Pat Ellingson, Creative Head, Children’s Media for TVO says A World of Wonders is most definitely the little show that could. “WOW has become one of TVO’s most popular programs, and one that is really striking a chord with our audience. It teaches kids about the richness and diversity of our planet by introducing them to people and places beyond their own community”.

Executive Producer Donna Leon says A World of Wonders has been an amazing journey. “We visit world wonders, but we also travel to far-flung towns and villages. Our team is fortunate to have met remarkable people across the globe, and it really is a privilege to be able to share their stories with viewers”.

A World of Wonders is a double Gemini nominee for Original Score. It also received an Award of Excellence nomination from the Alliance for Children and Television in 2009. WOW is produced in association with TVOKids, the Shaw Rocket Fund and the Canadian Museum of Civilization. It’s distributed by The Fremantle Corporation and
Visual Education Centre. The series can be seen in more than 25 markets internationally on ABC Australia, TVB in Hong Kong, National Geographic in Turkey, Al Jazeera Children’s Channel and Kuwait TV. It is also available in schools and libraries throughout Canada and the United States.
